With These Hands

When was the last time you held out your hand to someone in need?
When was it that you gave of your time to help those who could use a comforting word?
When did it happen that instead of closing your hands to others, you opened it instead?
At birth there are hands to hold us, feed us, clothe us and comfort us.
As we grow those hands are there to pick us up and wipe away the tears.
Eventually we ourselves become adults and learn the sorrows of life first hand. Along the way we begin to see that if we share ourselves with others, that love is not only given, but received as well.
Hands are used to work and to create.
Until those hands now need our care.
This week instead of holding onto the thought of what can others do for you, think instead about what you can do for others. Buying a meal for a homeless person, giving an hour of your time to a friend who is down or reading to an elderly person who can no longer see well enough to do it themselves won't cost you much. And think of the joy you will see in their eyes for a small act of kindness.
Start spreading the word. When you hold out your hand to your fellow man, you help the world.
"These are the hands that hold me up high,
Higher and higher till I touch the sky.
These are the hands I am happy to hold,
To keep me from harm and warm from the cold.
These are the hands.
That remind me to love." (Anonymous)
