Where have all the angels gone? Have you seen any lately?
Guardian angels are all around us. Whether one believes in a spiritual angel of legend or in the physical manifestation of our fellow men and women, guardian angels are always nearby. One merely has to open one's eyes to witness them in action.
Once the heady rush of pride is fulfilled, the wings come off and are put away, gathering dust and forgotten. That is, until the next conscious pricking horror comes around of course.
Does anyone remember reading about the Great Depression? So many went without even the smallest of wants; overridden by the necessity of needs. Even those were hard to come by most times. Yet you can read of story after story where some gave what they could to ease the suffering of others.
During this current time of hopelessness, maybe it is time to remember those less fortunate. How could it hurt to go without that Starbucks one morning to donate a toy to the local outreach center? What would it cost to give an hour to read to an elderly person living in a home? Think of the joy it can bring to visit the local VA hospital and bring some smiles with you. Do not forget the teenager who needs a hug so desperately they can barely function. What about the soldier, airman, sailor or marine serving overseas, away from their families and loved ones? Would it take so much time and effort to send little message to show them others care about the sacrifices they are making?
Instead of shuffling through the days with your head down and your eyes averted, why not take a moment to smile and greet those you pass by. You may just be surprised at the outcome and the joy you have just provided to another.
We can all become angels of mercy. Even if you feel that your wings are broken, it doesn't take much to repair. You simply have to be willing to try.
Are you ready to earn yours?
